A Cold Morning in February

When I got up this morning it was very cold outside, and yet as the picture shows, the birds had survived the night and were gathered at our backyard feeder for breakfast. "Amazing," I thought, "how do they stay alive in such bitter temperatures?" While I do not know the details of bird physiology, I do know the theological answer! They are but another example of my heavenly Father's care. He watches over all of his creatures and especially human beings whom he has made in his image and likeness. How thankful we should be that we have such a God. He does not slumber or sleep. He loves us and cares for us and he will bring all his people safely home to glory! We have every reason to love him and to serve him with joy all the days of our earthly pilgrimage.

"Let us learn our obligation to thankfulness—for warm houses, clothes, and beds; for comfortable food and fuel to relieve us against the rigor of the cold!" William Cooper, Concio Hyemalis: A Winter Sermon
