Look Away From Your Feelings and Trust the Savior - Mack Tomlinson

Do I love my chains and the bondage that they bring, that I would rather have that in hell for eternity, than have Christ for eternity?

Why did the wise men bring Jesus gold, frankincense, and myrrh?

Jesus is a gift that God gives to us and the magi come to also give gifts to him. As we've heard many times, the wise men brought Jesus gold, frankincense, and myrrh. But why those three things? Gold is for kings. This is lavish wealth, given to the baby Jesus, shows that Jesus is our King. Frankincense, which is incense used by the priests in the temple, shows that Jesus is our priest. Myrrh is an embalming fluid for the dead, foreshadowing Jesus' death on the cross as a sacrifice. These gifts show that Jesus is King, priest, and sacrifice.

This clip is excerpted from the sermon "Giving Your Gift to Jesus," part 3 of our sermon series He Made Us Family: God's Work, Our Witness 2012. It was preached by Pastor Mark Driscoll out of Matthew 2:1--12 at Mars Hill Downtown Bellevue and released on December 16.

What is your response to Jesus?

The first responses to Jesus were selfish interest (like Herod), disinterest (like many Jews), and genuine interest (like the wise men). Herod's motivation was to destroy any rivals for his throne. The scholars and scribes knew a Messiah was coming but didn't investigate for themselves. But the wise men were very determined to find him. They wanted to know Jesus. Friends, is your interest in Jesus a selfish interest, is it disinterest, or is it a genuine interest?

How Does Increasing Entropy Relate to the Cosmological Argument and the Multiverse?

The Bethinking National Apologetics Day Conference: "Countering the New Atheism" took place during the UK Reasonable Faith Tour in October 2011. Christian academics William Lane Craig, John Lennox, Peter J Williams and Gary Habermas lead 600 people in training on how to defend and proclaim the credibility of Christianity against the growing tide of secularism and New Atheist popular thought in western society.

In this session, William Lane Craig delivers his critique of Richard Dawkins' objections to arguments for the existence of God, followed by questions and answers from the audience. In this clip, Dr Craig addresses a question about whether a possible multiverse would affect entropy and the cosmological argument.

How Jesus Viewed the Bible (What Jesus Said About the Bible)

Jesus often quoted what we know today as the Old Testament. He used these Scriptures to create curiosity, break traditions, and answer questions in a way that penetrated hearts, stirred thoughts, and even angered the religious leaders of His time. Not only did His statements about the Bible challenge their thinking then, but His words also continue to raise questions in the minds of many today.

Discover for yourself how Jesus viewed the Old Testament Scriptures.

Participants in the complete program: Darrell Bock, Craig Evans, Craig Hazen, Mike Licona, Daniel Wallace, Michael Wilkins, and Peter Williams. Host: Mart DeHaan.
