Jesus Loves The Little Children

By Kirk M. Wellum

Those deluded Taliban cowards are at it again. Another day, another suicide bombing, this time killing 4 Canadian soldiers and injuring 27 civilians including children. According to news reports, the soldiers were handing out candy to the children when the bomber rode his bicycle into the group of soldiers and civilians and detonated his explosive device. And then. as if proud of their demonic achievements, the Taliban once again "claimed responsibility" for the murders. Unfortunately, these wicked men do not seem to realize that they will one day stand before God; a God they are totally unprepared to meet. Unless they turn from their evil ways in this life, they will find themselves in the presence of the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, not Allah, as they imagine. Then, and only then, will they begin to realize what it means to take responsibility for their sins for all eternity when they are shut out from the presence of the God who is holy, holy, holy.

What is deafening is the relative silence of the Islamic world. A few days ago, when the Pope read words from an ancient text that were critical of Mohammed, there were noisy protests all over the world and even some followers of the "prophet" calling for the Pope's execution. The Islamic spin-doctors that almost immediately appear in the media whenever Muslim extremists are following their version of the faith are always quick to say that they do not support such violence. I trust they are telling the truth. But still it would be better, if that is really the position of the majority of Muslims, to see them rise up on mass and take real and tangible steps to bring their heretical brothers and sisters into line just as quickly as possible. The longer this kind of thing goes on and the more we hear them in any way justifying the unjustifiable, the harder it is to believe that they are not a threat to the stability of the world and the well-being of people everywhere.

Jesus had some strong things to say about those who harm children: "I assure you, unless you turn from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who trusts in me to lose faith, it would be better for that person to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck" (Matthew 18:3-6 NLT).

I wonder what he will say to those who murder little children in the streets in the name of God?
