Tools to Help Keep Up Bible Reading

From http://xaueious.blogspot.com/

During these few months of starting to read the Bible, I found these tools to be very useful and I would like to share them here. I know of more tools, but these are the ones that I have used the most so far.

Devotional Materials

ESV Bible Online: Devotions
http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/devotions/
  • free
  • ESV
  • devotional material and Bible reading plans
    • Every Day in the Word (25 minute read, picks from different parts of the Bible for a diverse read, is probably the reason I read my Bible at all, give it a shot if you don't have a Bible plan)

Bethlehem Baptist Church: Fighter Verses
http://www.bbcmpls.org/fighterverses
  • weekly Bible verses for memorization (I haven't been keeping up)
  • free
  • RSS compatible in a nice news feed
  • podcasted, so you can listen to it as well or download an mp3
  • ESV

Online Tools

Biblegateway
http://www.biblegateway.com
  • free
  • online availability
  • quick
  • reference for Bibles of all popular versions in English, as well as different languages
  • good search capabilities

Offline Tools

e-Sword
http://www.e-sword.net/
  • Windows, PocketPC
  • offline use
  • freeware
  • free ESV as well as KJV and CUV; other various versions available such as NIV, Message, if you buy them
  • many commentaries for free, including the infamous Matthew Henry's detailed commentary set
  • Strong's numbers KJV included
  • slightly faster than online programs and can be used offline
  • sluggish performance for an offline program, slow startup (I keep it running in the background)
  • questionable interface

Palm Bible+
http://palmbibleplus.sourceforge.net/

  • Palm OS PDA
  • open-source freeware
  • Very easy to use, with split screen support, tap scrolling
  • ESV free, as well as KJV and CUV
  • free Matthew Henry commentary, and more available
  • replaces my book Bible

  • Is beta software and will crash once in a while
