The Global Peace Index rates 121 countries on different factors, assessing a country's level of violence and danger.

The Top 5 Safest Places to Visit
1) Norway was named the most peaceful country in the world in 2007.
2) New Zealand was ranked second.
3) Denmark was ranked third most peaceful country.
4) Ireland was ranked fourth most peaceful country.
5) Japan rounded out the top five most peaceful countries in the world.

The Top 5 Least Safe Places to Visit
5) Some two-dozen indicators were used, including wars fought in the past five years, arms sales, prison populations and incidence of crime. Nigeria was the fifth least peaceful country in the world according to the Economist's report.
4) Russia is the fourth least peaceful country in the world.
