Observations from Darrell Brookers @ http://drbrooker.net/
This just came across the newswire….
Nov. 30 (Bloomberg) — Pope Benedict XVI became the first pontiff in history to turn toward the Muslim holy city of Mecca and pray, a surprise gesture of reconciliation toward the Islamic world he offended when he linked Muslims to violence.
After leaving the mosque, the pope turned to the Islamic religious leaders who were accompanying him and said, “Thank you for this moment of prayer.”
This is an outright denial of Jesus Christ. As it (horrifically) says in the official Roman Catechism:
#841 - “The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. ‘The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.’[LG 16; cf. NA 3.]”
There is no common ground between Christians and those who deny Jesus Christ. Merely acknowledging some unknown or imagined creator does not save. These poor people are to be evangelized, not appeased and affirmed in their unbelief. The position Rome holds on Islam is antithetical to the Scriptures teaching on salvation; that it is found in no other name under heaven, but Christ’s.
My initial reaction was to feel pity for the Muslims and anger towards the Papacy. I think it proper to pity them both for the same reason.
